Belle BWE 80/110/130 Concrete Mixer

The Belle BWE 80/110/130 concrete mixers are widely used for mixing concrete in construction. However, like any machinery, they can experience certain issues. Below are some common problems, their possible causes, and solutions:

1. Engine Not Starting

Problem: The concrete mixer’s engine fails to start. Possible Causes:

  • Lack of fuel or incorrect fuel type.
  • Faulty spark plug.
  • Battery failure (if electric model).
  • Blocked fuel line or carburettor.
  • Broken or faulty ignition system.

Solutions:

  • Check fuel levels and use the correct fuel type (ensure the mixture of petrol and oil is correct).
  • Clean or replace the spark plug.
  • Test the battery and replace if necessary (for electric models).
  • Inspect and clean the fuel line and carburettor.
  • Check the ignition system and replace faulty components.

2. Motor Runs But Mixer Drum Doesn’t Turn

Problem: The engine is running, but the drum isn’t rotating. Possible Causes:

  • Broken or loose drive belt.
  • Faulty motor drive mechanism.
  • Worn-out bearings.
  • Clogged gearbox or mechanical issue in the drum rotation system.

Solutions:

  • Inspect and replace the drive belt if it is broken or too loose.
  • Check the motor’s drive mechanism for any defects.
  • Lubricate or replace worn-out bearings.
  • Inspect the gearbox and motor for any blockages or mechanical damage.

3. Drum Won’t Rotate Smoothly

Problem: The drum rotates but is noisy or uneven. Possible Causes:

  • Insufficient lubrication on bearings.
  • Damaged drum or worn-out parts.
  • Obstructions or debris inside the drum.

Solutions:

  • Lubricate bearings and check for wear.
  • Inspect the drum for damage and replace if necessary.
  • Clear any debris or obstructions inside the drum.

4. Overheating of Motor

Problem: The motor gets too hot. Possible Causes:

  • Overuse or excessive load.
  • Poor ventilation or cooling system.
  • Low-quality fuel or incorrect mixture (for petrol-powered models).
  • Blocked cooling fins or air vents.

Solutions:

  • Allow the motor to cool down between uses, and avoid overloading the mixer.
  • Clean the ventilation system to ensure proper airflow.
  • Check and adjust the fuel mixture for petrol models.
  • Clean cooling fins and air vents to prevent overheating.

5. Leaks in the Drum

Problem: Water or concrete mixture leaking from the drum. Possible Causes:

  • Worn or damaged drum seals.
  • Loose bolts or connections.

Solutions:

  • Inspect the seals and replace them if damaged.
  • Tighten any loose bolts or connections to ensure proper sealing.

6. Faulty Switch or Control

Problem: The mixer’s switches or control mechanisms are not responding. Possible Causes:

  • Faulty or corroded switch.
  • Wiring issues or loose connections.
  • Overloaded electrical components.

Solutions:

  • Inspect and replace faulty switches or controls.
  • Check wiring for damage or loose connections.
  • Ensure the electrical components are not overloaded.

7. Excessive Vibrations

Problem: The mixer vibrates too much during operation. Possible Causes:

  • Unbalanced drum.
  • Loose or damaged parts.
  • Worn-out bearings or bushings.

Solutions:

  • Balance the drum properly and check for uneven wear.
  • Tighten or replace any loose or damaged components.
  • Lubricate or replace worn bearings and bushings.

8. Noisy Operation

Problem: The mixer produces unusual or loud noise during operation. Possible Causes:

  • Worn-out bearings or components.
  • Foreign debris or dirt inside the mechanism.
  • Loose or misaligned parts.

Solutions:

  • Lubricate and replace worn-out bearings or components.
  • Inspect and clean the mixer for any debris or dirt.
  • Tighten and realign any misaligned or loose parts.

9. Concrete Mix Not Properly Combined

Problem: The concrete mixture is not being thoroughly mixed. Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect water-to-cement ratio.
  • Incorrect drum rotation speed.
  • Worn-out drum paddles.

Solutions:

  • Ensure the correct water-to-cement ratio is followed.
  • Check and adjust the drum speed as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Inspect and replace worn-out drum paddles.

10. Mixer Stopping Suddenly

Problem: The concrete mixer stops abruptly during operation. Possible Causes:

  • Electrical short circuit.
  • Overload condition.
  • Faulty switch or control mechanism.

Solutions:

  • Check for electrical faults and replace damaged components.
  • Avoid overloading the mixer and ensure it operates within recommended limits.
  • Inspect the switch or control mechanism and replace if needed.

Regular maintenance and following the manufacturer’s instructions can prevent many of these issues. If these solutions don’t resolve your issues, consider consulting the manufacturer’s manual or reaching out to a repair technician – That’s us!

For all spares and parts we recommend our sister company – HTS Spares

Spoke to Jeremy at HTS Plant on Monday morning about a generator they had in stock agreed a deal, arrived onsite Tuesday lunchtime "excellent service" Hard to find likeminded honest genuine company’s these days HTS are spot on. Jeremy even took the time to phone making sure everything was ok.
